Beating Late Frosts: Protecting Grapevines with Sprinkler Irrigation
Welcome to channel My Amazing Homestead!
In this video, we demonstrate a technique to safeguard grapevines from late spring frosts using sprinkler irrigation. Sprinkler irrigation, or "frost irrigation," involves dispersing water over the grapevines in the form of fine droplets, mimicking rainfall. For this purpose, we've utilized specialized micro-sprinklers strategically positioned above the grape rows. These sprinklers are activated when temperatures drop close to 0°C, creating a protective layer of ice around the grapevines, insulating them from the freezing temperatures and preventing frost damage to the buds and vines. Watch as we walk you through the setup and effectiveness of this ...

Interesting video. . . a few missing steps, and unclear instructions: where did the bag of sticks come from? How old were they? Why did you soak the ends for 24 hours, and then re-dip them into a can of ? and then back into the root growth solution?

Calcium carbonate (in eggshells) and vinegar will produce calcium acetate. Vinegar is acetic acid. To produce calcium citrate, you would need to use citric acid, like from citrus fruits.

NOPE. Adding vinegar (acetic acid) to egg shells (calcium carbonate) yields calcium acetate, not calcium citrate. And while there is a difference between the two the name doesn't matter for this recipe. Calcium citrate and calcium acetate are both water soluble and will be picked up by the plants more readily than just regular egg shells in the soil alone

I'm trying to grow some mint in pots in the Phoenix area. To keep the potting soil from drying out completely between waterings from the hot days I resorted to using a cotton wick. I add a small amount of water from the top once a day to ensure the plants are getting enough water. Then let the wick supply the rest. The plant's roots have since followed the wick to the water source. The mint plants so far have survived 105 degrees. Not sure if they will survive 110, 115, or 118 though.
